Food Lover’s Market, Zimbabwe

Food Lover’s Market by Sam Levy’s Village in Borrowdale is my go to place for breakfast.  I absolutely LOVE the place and I keep going back for more. The other day I had a day off and my Manager specifically told me to go and spoil myself because life is short.  After running a million errands I decided to pass through Food Lover’s Market.

Unfortunately I wasn’t in time for breakfast and had to settle for lunch.  This is something I had never done before so I was open to trying out something new.  The waiter was very friendly and he helped me make a decision on what to try out.  I had chicken schnitzel which came with chips, a salad and mushroom sauce.  I absolutely love mushroom sauce and this was exactly what I needed after a busy morning.

What I Love About Food Lover’s Market:

  1. The food!  My plate was very very well presented.  Just looking at it put a huge smile on my face.  The first bite of chicken left a warmness in my heart that spelled happiness.  The chicken was cooked to perfection and I promise you it was so big I didn’t even eat supper that day and chose to take a doggy bag with.  The salad was colourful and crunchy; and the mushroom sauce was well done.
  2. The ambiance.  I love the fact that you can choose to sit indoors or outdoors.  I love sitting outside because there’s natural light and this is perfect for Instagram photos.
  3. Payment methods.  You can use Ecocash, Swipe, Cash or United States Dollars at a rate I think is reasonable.  I spend about 30 bond for my meal and refreshments.
  4. Friendly staff who actually smile and make you feel welcome.  You don’t feel out of place at all.  Food Lover’s Market has this homey feel to it.
  5. Menu.  It caters to those working on a budget.  You can enjoy a decent hearty meal that won’t leave you with any sign of regret for spending money there.  They have great customer service; you’re sure to leave a tip.

Senna Tea Will Work Wonders To Your Body

I had no idea Senna Tea existed until late last year when my sister suggested I give it a try.  It had been 3 uncomfortable days of not being able to poo and I was losing my mind!  She gave me a teabag and told me I had to take it overnight.  Unfortunately, I only remembered the next morning and decided to have it then.  Let’s just say that was one of the days I don’t like thinking back to because I had to poo one three many times at work…very “un-lady” like if you ask me.

Senna Tea Product Review MaKupsy.jpg

Pros

  1. It’s highly effective and gets you from constipation to relieved in a matter of hours.
  2. Once you purchase a box of Senna Tea you will keep it for a long time, I’ve had mine for close to a 6 months now and I’ve only used 3 teabags.
  3. It’s easy to use.  There’s no special method to follow.  All you need to do is add hot water, let it brew for about 5 minutes and it’s ready to drink.
  4. You can purchase it from a supermarket, no need to have to go and see a doctor and pay an obscene amount of money for doctor’s consultation. Zimbabwe  is currently going through a serious economic crisis so the less stressful alternative the better.

Cons

  1. It’s expensive.  It cost me RTGS10 back then and that was already a lot of money, I shudder to imagine how much it’s going for now.
  2. According to studies: “Don’t use senna for more than two weeks. Longer use can cause the bowels to stop functioning normally and might cause dependence on laxatives.”
Senna Tea MaKupsy.jpg

Image from Google

If you can’t get a hold of Senna Tea in your area you can also try some other remedies that might cure constipation such as:

  • chewing on ginger
  • making sure your diet includes high fiber; think fruits, vegetables and beans
  • Hunters Gold (I’ve tried and tested this myself works like a charm)
  • soap; when we were younger we used to rub soap and water and use the foam to rub against our erm..anus.  I’m laughing as I type this out, but yes it did the trick I don’t know if it will work now.
  • exercise, it helps with bowel movement, I’ve noticed that on days I don’t exercise I’m not as regular.

At the end of the day I’m still stuck on Senna Tea.  I would highly recommend you give it a try.  However, you need to remember to use it occasionally and AT NIGHT as your last “meal” of the day.  Trust me, you don’t want to go through my ordeal of not following instructions.

On a scale of 0-10 with 10 being the best I give Senna Tea a well deserved 9 out of 10.  They lost a point at the price there, perhaps it’s much more reasonably priced in South Africa where it’s produced.

Have you tried Senna Tea before?  What was your experience like?  I would also like to hear what some of your home remedies for constipation are.

Queen of Hearts Cafe & Bakery

Queen of Hearts Cafe & Bakery has been on my to-do-list for the longest time.  My friend and I decided to give it a try and see what the hype is all about.  Thanks to technology it’s easy to get in touch with them because they’re available on Facebook.  A few messages later they had replied and sent through the menu for both the meals and the bar.  I’m one of those people who like to know how much I’m going to be spending on an outing in advance so that there are no surprises when I arrive at my intended destination.

Food ♥♥♥

I like to order food that I rarely eat or I’m not very enthusiastic about preparing on my own.  I ordered Crumbed Bream Fillet served with chips, salad and homemade tartar sauce(20 bond).  The picture above is the image I had of my meal.  You can’t imagine my disappointment when my food was finally served.  The crumbed bream looked like a hake version “fresh” out of Fish Inn.  It was dry, the tartar sauce didn’t quite compliment the bream, the chips were flaccid, the salad was simply flopped in my plate and wasn’t crisp.  My food was dull and I didn’t enjoy it.  It took forever and a day to be served and definitely not worth my hard earned bond notes.  I genuinely felt cheated.

Shami: “I enjoyed every bite of my chicken, it was delicious.  I actually had to get a doggie bag because the half chicken was so big I couldn’t finish it in one sitting.  However, I still can’t believe that we waited one solid hour to get our food!  “

Service ♥♥

As first timers we chose a table with a lovely view right next to the water fountain.  We wanted to take everything in about Queen of Hearts Cafe & Bakery in.  We sat there for the next 20 minutes with no one in sight to assist us.  I had to get up and go and ask one of the waiters for service.  Only then did we find out that it was self service and we had been sitting at a reserved table.  Now imagine if I hadn’t asked???  I strongly believe that they need waiters at the entry points of the restaurant to direct customers to make the whole experience a whole lot smoother.

You know how your waiter comes through to check up on you and find out if you’re enjoying your meal?  Well, there’s no such service here.

Shami: “I’d suggest that they have some waiters go round and check on customers as they arrive  especially those seated at the reserved tables to make sure they have been assisted.  The tables don’t have a “Reserved” sign, just a board with a name.  We actually thought the name was for the waiter who was supposed to serve us!”

Atmosphere ♥♥♥♥

This is probably the reason why we spent the greater part of the afternoon here.  The restaurant has a relaxed feel to it and the well-kept garden contributes enormously to the mood.  Queen of Hearts Cafe & Bakery is also family friendly.  There’s a play area with swings where kids can go and enjoy some time out away from their parents.  There was a live band playing different beautiful tracks including a few pieces from the late Oliver Mtukudzi.  The ambiance was certainly top notch.

Location ♥♥♥♥

1 Hurworth Road, Highlands, Harare.  It’s easy to locate if whether you’re using Google Maps or simple directions from a friend.  If you’re coming from the direction of Harare Central Business District you have to make sure you slow down just before the destination as the restaurant name is written on the durawall and if you drive too fast you just might miss the turn.

What I loved about Queen of Hearts Cafe & Bakery

  • I was happy with the fact that they accept all forms of payment United States Dollars (if you’re free to dish out your foreign currency like that) as well and if you pay using this currency you get a huge discount.
  • There’s secure and more than enough parking available, you can enjoy your meal without having to worry about your car.
  • The most delicious cocktails ever!  Perhaps next time we will sit right by the bar and enjoy sips of fruity flavoured cocktails instead of the food?

Horsebox Bar MaKupsy.jpg

I completely forgot to ask if they had WiFi available for their customers.  If yes, we probably didn’t need it anyway, Shami and I were enjoying each other’s company.

On a scale of 0-10 with 10 being the most amazing experience I would rate Queen of Hearts Cafe & Bakery a 7 out of 10.  I believe they can do better when it comes to the food, I might go back and give them one more try.

The Budget Phone You Need To Know About

The Xiaomi Redmi 6A is a budget phone that has given me the ultimate Android experience.  It was released in June 2018 and I had mine delivered in October after making an online payment of $115 sometime in August.  This is the first time I’ve owned a brand new boxed smart phone.  I always buy second hand phones so this was a whole new encounter for me.

MaKupsy Xiaomi Redmi 6A.jpg

Pros

  1. Amazing battery life.  I can go for two days without having to recharge it.  In Zimbabwe you can go for day(s) without power and this is the answer to one of my struggles.
  2. The picture quality is crisp and clear. A bonus feature is the beautiful pictures the front camera takes.  You can check out some of them from my Instagram account over here.
  3. The price is very affordable, for just $115 you can own your very own brand new boxed phone.
  4. It has an internal memory of 32gig which is ideal for my selfie addiction and video taking during events.
  5. It comes in three fresh and trendy colours which include Rose Gold, Blue, Grey and Black.  I had to settle for black because the Rose Gold I wanted was out of stock.
  6. It’s a sleek phone, a handful of people have mistaken it for a Huawei P10.
  7. It comes with a dual sim (I always forget I have this feature on my phone) and memory card slot.

Xiaomi Redmi 6A.jpg

Cons

  1. It can’t be repaired in Zimbabwe.  I asked my go to person for all things smart phone related before I made the purchase and the first thing he told me was to take care of my phone because the parts for the phone are not available.
  2. I failed to use an app (DADApp) and resorted to using my iPhone instead.  I’m not sure if it’s the application or my phone that had a problem but either way I made no progress.
  3. No tempered glass or phone back covers are available.  I had to resort to improvising on sizes to protect my phone.
  4. No finger print scanner.  This was a huge disappointment for me because it’s 2018 and having to manually type in our passwords is really old school.

I watched this YouTube video yesterday and I was left feeling rattled.  I could never try this out but it’s good to know that if my phone happens to be exposed to water I won’t suffer heart palpitations.

I would rate the Xiaomi Redmi 6A a clean 8 out of 10.  If you would like to get your hands on this phone click on this here.  You can also find out which other awesome phones you can buy for just under $200 from one of my favourite Tech websites over here.

What was your best purchase for 2018?

So I Tried The DADApp and…

DADApp MaKupsy

DAD App

Dial-a-Delivery has a brand spanking new mobile application they term DADApp.  I found out about this app through Twitter and given that I’m always up for any form of new adventures I decided to give it a try.  Dial-a-Delivery is best known for delivering your favourite take out meals from Pizza Inn, Nandos, Chicken Inn, Steers and RocoMamas as well. I put in a lot of work on my fitness journey and sometimes I’m exhausted.  Cooking is the last thing on my mind let alone packing a lunch box so I thought why not spoil myself?  I used up 85MB of data to install the app which is available on both iOS and Android so I went on and downloaded the app onto both of my phones.

Dial-a-Delievery Fitness Bae.jpg

One of the features I gave a big thumbs up about this app is how at submitting your address and details there’s an area that asks you to type out instructions for example, “Ask for Fitness Bae at the entrance.”   This specific feature makes it easy for the delivery man to get to you.  No need to call you and locate you.  Yes, you do include your contact number as well in case the delivery man gets lost but giving clear cut instructions makes the process all the more smoother.

My colleague (work bae) and I do packed lunches A LOT so I decided to impress him and organise lunch.  I absolutely love Nandos, it’s my go to meal on cheat days so I wasted no time and got tech savvy.  I ordered 1/2 chicken + single side plain chips + a Nandos roll in lemon and herb flavour which happens to be the best flavour that was ever made!

I was pleasantly surprised when my food arrived exactly one hour after ordering it.  The customer service from the delivery guys is top notch.  They’re polite, friendly and always smartly dressed in their Dial-a-Delivery uniform.  My food arrived in a semi-warm state; thankfully we have a microwave at work so just a minute of reheating was good enough to dive into it. The chicken was grilled to perfection, sinfully tender just the way I love it; the chips were fresh and not burnt and the roll ended up being a meal I had the next day because I was seriously stuffed.  I ended up chewing up all the bones with no shame at all, this is what cheat meals are made of after all.  I’ve always had my Nandos straight from any one of their food outlets but having my food delivered at the office was a convenient and welcome change.  I loved it!

DsChyUxWoAAqeAg.jpg

Nandos half chicken+chips+roll

What I love about DADApp

  1. The app has a tracking system.  You get to see the progress of your order.  No need to call to find out what’s going on with your food, the update is efficient.
  2. I love the colour theme.  I’m biased to the colour red and I’m also a very visual person.  Play that card on me and you’ve won me over.
  3. It’s simple and straight forward to use and works smoothly on my iPhone.
  4. It doesn’t chew much of your data, I’m working on a very tight budget so I didn’t feel the pinch when I downloaded the app.
  5. The food is lip smackingly delicious.  It maintains it’s original taste we’ve come to know and love.
  6. They deliver on time or a few minutes before the time stated on the app once you make your order.
  7. Friendly delivery men.
  8. They accept all methods of payment.  You can either use cash, swipe,  ZimSwitch, EcoCash, Visa or MasterCard.   Options aplenty so need to worry about how you’re going to pay up for your meal.

What I didn’t love about DADApp

  1. The app seemed to face a technical glitch of sort on one occasion when over the weekend at an event, I tried to get food delivered but was not successful. It seemed to work perfectly when I was in the CBD but once I was out of town, my order seemed to stay stuck at “order placed.”
  2. The app doesn’t seem to go past the “proceed” button when I’m using my Android.  I’ve had to resort to using my iPhone each time I want to make an order.  Again I’m assuming this is possibly teething pains of a new app.
  3. The food arrives semi-warm.  I work right in town close to a number of outlets one which happens to be just one street away.  I was thoroughly disappointed by this.
  4. I spent an entire afternoon waiting on an order that never arrived.  I was greatly inconvenienced.

*One super cool thing you didn’t know about DADApp*

Your friends and family from outside can also download this app and pay for your food from any part of the world.  The festive season is fast approaching; this would certainly be a welcome gesture if those close to you are food lovers.

On a scale of 0-10 with 10 being the best experience.  I would rate DADApp at 6 out of 10.  Their food and customer service are top notch.  However, I think that if technical glitches are looked into it DADApp might just land itself at top place for the best food delivery apps in town.

Have you tried out DADApp before? If yes, what did you love about it?

Hairstyles That Make My Hair Happy

My love affair with braids started exactly a year ago when a friend referred me to her hairdresser, Christine.  Ever since then I’ve had no one else touch my hair when it comes to braiding.  There are thousands of people who can braid your hair but I keep going back to the same person because:

  • Whichever hairdo you show her you want if she can do it she’ll tell you she can and if she can’t she’s honest with you from the get go.
  • She keeps time.  If you set up an appointment with her best believe she will be there at the agreed time.
  • She’s almost always fully booked so you have to make an appointment in advance, sometimes a whole week in advance.  It will be worth the wait because your hair will look good and all her attention will be on you on the day.
  • She does home visits.
  • Her prices are very reasonable.
  • She can do your hair while you sleep.  She actually prefers that you sleep and she gets on with her work with peace, quiet and maximum concentration!

Dax 3 in 1 Super Curl Sheen Review

I bought myself a bottle of Dax 3 in 1 Super Curl Sheen a while ago because I was and still am out of coconut oil.  Members from the Facebook Page I follow for natural hair care highly recommend this product so I decided to give it a try as an alternative while I waited for my supplier to restock the product that makes my hair really happy.  I remember using Dax 3 in 1 Super Curl Sheen way back in primary school.  This is round about the time I learnt how to do my own hair.  How I wish I had taken it to the next level and learnt how to do cornrows, I could be making serious money right about now!  The country is on a serious natural hair movement and there’s no stopping us.  The product seemed to work just fine back then so I had no doubt it would work miracles yet again.

Dax 3 in 1 MaKupsy.jpg

The packaging is basic nothing too fancy.  Directions on how to apply the product are simple and written at the back of the bottle; they read:

Apply generous amounts of Super Dax 3 in  Triple Action Black Curl Sheen to your hair and massage evenly throughout your hair with your fingertips.  Comb into your favourite style.

I asked my Twitter followers if they had used this product before.  Their responses;

My clothing was always stained as a kid, especially collars – @SoulDeepZim

Awesome, my pubic hair had been flourishing ever since – @_iamTJ (I don’t know if he’s serious or just playing.)

Dax 3 in 1 Review MaKupsy.jpg

Dax is perfect if you want to rock the African Threading hairstyle (we call it “buns” this part of the world)

I’ve been using this product for a month and a half now.

Pros

  1. It’s cheap, I bought it in Bon Marche for $3.80.
  2. It leaves your hair soft and easy to manage if you plan on plaiting it.

Cons

  1. I don’t like the sticky effect it leaves on my hands.  After applying it my hair felt sticky, dirty and heavy I felt like I had to rewash my hair.
  2. Dax 3 in 1 leaves stains on my pillow cases and satin bonnet.
  3. There are no ingredients listed so I have no clue what I’m feeding my hair with.
  4. I didn’t see any positive changes after using it.  My hair felt and looked miserable.  I assume it works for certain hair types.  I’m still trying to figure out what my hair type is so there’s that.

The natural hair community hypes a lot of things, I’ve learnt that not everything that works for others will automatically work for me.  Thankfully the product was cheap and I wasn’t too heart broken when it didn’t work.  I gave it away to someone who made better use of it.

On a scale of 0-10, I rate the product at 3.  At least it will keep your hair moisturised until your reliable everyday product is back on the market.

What has your experience with Dax 3 in 1 Curl Sheen?  Would you recommend it to a friend?

My Skin Care Routine

I’ve never had an actual skin care routine but thanks to declaring 2018 as the year of the glow up; I decided to start researching on ways to take better care of my skin.  My first stop was my facial skin.  I have really oily skin and my face is prone to break outs.  I can’t believe that at my very big age I still have to deal with acne.  Turns out that some of the reasons why this is happening is because:

  • Good old monthlys; I break out a few days after just like clock work.
  • I’m always man handling a phone and the handset is obviously swamped with germs.
  • I use any random lotion on my face after I wash it. (not a very bright idea!)

Once I figured out WHY I was breaking out I set out to work on the how to manage the situation.  I read a few articles from the internet and I needed to get anti-bacterial wipes for my phone, serum for my face and continue to drink a lot of water because I already do this religiously.  I’m a woman on a budget so after shopping around I settled for Gentle Magic Serum; it’s just $2.50 and $5 in some supermarkets but my secret spot has it for a very cheap deal!

SkinCare Routine MaKupsy.jpg

Image from Google

I can safely say that 3 months later my facial skin is in a very happy place!  This is my everyday routine.

  1. Wash my face with white soap and cold or warm water.
  2. Pat dry and apply gentle magic serum.
  3. Done

It doesn’t take much of my time to do this and if I choose to wear makeup on the day I simply apply it after applying serum first.  Gentle Magic comes in an entire range which includes the bar soap, lotion, cream, mask, oil, and the serum.  I tried the bar soap, it smells horrible so I dropped it and went back to using my good old white soap.

Skin Care MaKupsy.jpg

Scars on my cheek before using Gentle Magic

Skin Care Routine Makupsy.jpg

Scars have cleared 3 months later 🙂

The only worrisome thing is that everyone around me is telling me that if I continue to use it I’ll go lighter in complexion.  That isn’t the plan for me; I just want to have even  skin tone.  I’ll do some more research and figure out how I can use it less often and find a face cream that will still work wonders for me.

Why I love Gentle Magic Serum:

  1. It’s affordable!
  2. The first ingredient is water.  If you’re anything like me you want to know what’s in the product you’re using.  The importance of having water as the main ingredient is that water hydrates the skin, a well hydrated skin is a glowing skin.
  3. It contains glycerin, glycerin is an emollient; making skin not only oist, but soft and supple to the touch.
  4. It contains sunscreen.  Have you seen the prices for sunscreen on the shelves?!  I’d rather buy Gentle Magic Serum any day!
  5. It lasts for weeks. I only bought my second tube a few weeks ago.

This is what has worked for me and I’m really excited about it because I’ve tried so many products before but none gave me such a positive result.  I also make sure I eat right, exercise, clean my phone with anti bacterial wet wipes as often as I can and stay hydrated.  My next step is to work on my hands, I do so much house chores they’re starting to look like they belong to someone else!

Chop Chop Brazilian Steak House: Part 2

In my first Restaurant Review for Chop Chop Brazilian Steak House I promised I would go back for a second experience.  You can read all about my first experience from here.  I can safely tell you that going back was a great decision which was greatly influenced by my darling little sister Pineapple.  We catch up in person every now and again when we are both free and this time it was her turn to choose a place and we settled for Chop Chop Brazilian Steak House.  I have nothing but great things to say today so you might want to read through so that you get address to this place at the end of the blog.

I was the first one to arrive and I had to check and make sure they accepted payment through Ecocash.  Thankfully they do and so I happily waltzed in and chose a table for two.  When Pineapple arrived we chose a different table and we made ourselves at home.  We had a waiter come through to assist us, I can’t possibly forget her name, Samantha, she was very helpful.  Before placing any order of sort the first thing we did was ask her to take pictures, for the gram!

95c18427-f810-4565-9906-0eed8fdd201f (1).jpg

Pineapple & MaKupsy (Fitness Bae)

Browsing through the menu was an easy decision for me.  I don’t like beef so I was scouting for anything but that.  I settled for a chicken burger and chips and minutes later Pineapple decided on the same thing.  I guess we share the same birthday for a good reason after all.  I made sure I showed up on an empty stomach because the agenda of the day was talk about what we have been both up to, what we are planning for the near future and how we are going to to make a mark in the world while enjoying a good meal and indulging in some yummy beverages.

Chicken Burger & Chips $8

I think this is the biggest burger I have ever had in my life!  I had to cut it in half so that I could accommodate it in my mouth.  It was fresh, tasty and packed with nothing but goodness. You wouldn’t think it was your ordinary burger, it had “that thing”.  The burger was sinfully tasty just thinking about it right now is making me feel hungry all over again.  I am very particular about colour on my plate and I can safely say that I was not disappointed.   The meal was executed to a tee.  I didn’t get to finish my burger by the way.  Okay I lie, I left just a bite size but I really couldn’t stomach anymore food.  I didn’t even have space for dessert!

24442697-e331-4ece-8988-682b3f73a1f1

my favourite picture of the day 🙂

For people who were stuffed we surprisingly had space for cocktails.  We wanted to try something new and Samantha went and asked the Bar Man to come through and explain to us what each cocktail contained.  Like how cool is that?  This is already another reason Chop Chop Brazilian Steak House will be my new hang out place.  I haven’t had that kind of personalised service before.  We settled for Purple Rain cocktails.  Not only do they look pretty they taste completely divine!  My ears starting getting hot at some point, a good kind of hot.  I am not sure if it was me just feeling happy for spending time with Pineapple or the cocktail was taking over, either way it was a wonderful feeling!

Zimbabwean Bloggers 🙂

We were at Chop Chop Brazilian Steak House till around 9pm.  To think we got there in the afternoon around 3pm!  I think my second experience was much better than the first because I had great company and a great waitress as well.  If Pineapple and I had it our way we could have stayed there till closing time but we had other commitments the next day.

I think it is only right for me to tell you that if you don’t pay a visit to Chop Chop Brazilian Steak House anytime soon you will be doing yourself a serious disservice!  It is going to be the hottest place in town and you don’t want to have to make advance bookings to have a taste of the place.  Go there today, tomorrow, this weekend but whatever you do make a trip there, it will be worth your while.

The positive things from my second experiences are:

  • The use of Ecocash, what a a life saver!
  • The waitress Samantha was very attentive and helpful.
  • The toilets were clean.
  • The ambiance was great.
  • The music had that Kizomba feel to it I had to stop myself from getting up and pulling a move or two.
  • Compliments to the Chef on this day, the food was amazeballs!

I noticed on their Facebook Page that they now have a Jazz Nite on Wednesdays.  I will check it out soon because I always have an excuse to leave the house!

19989231_2111223105771718_1632963205478749505_n.jpg

One of the main highlights of Chop Chop Brazilian Restaurant is that unlike many sit-down non fast food restaurants in Zimbabwe, they are open every single day of the week for breakfast, lunch, dinner, coffee and drinks. In addition, everyday, there is a different special on the menu; all you have to do is ask your waiter!

Don’t say you didn’t hear this from me first but… from Saturday the 21st of July, they will be serving a meat platter!  It will be going for $30 for 4 kebabs, 2 sausages, 4 wings, 250g sirloin steak and chips.  There goes watching my portions!

You can make a reservation online. No need to call or come in just visit www.chopchop.co.zw

On a scale of 0-10, 10 being the best experience ever, I give Chop Chop Brazilian Restaurant a cool 9 out 10.  I am so glad I made a second visit, it was worth every minute.  If you want to have a sit down at a place with great energy, comfortable sitting area and delicious food then look no further…

We have long since agreed that I am a lover of fine things so it will come as no surprise that I already got to check out the new joint in town, Chop Chop Brazilian Steak House.  This was actually a surprise outing so I was not looking the part so there will be no filtered selfies in this post.  The plus side of this place is that it’s right in town and just a 5 minute walk from my place of residence.  I was excited to find out if they had better service than News Cafe Fife Avenue because this was going to determine if they will be my go to place when I am feeling lazy to cook.

I am one of those individuals who always asks the person waiting on me which dish I should try if I am at a new place.  I didn’t want to have chicken, I have eaten it in so many different forms it’s the last thing I want to eat when I go out.  She recommended I try out the Chop Chop Pizza.  In the interim I ordered a cappuccino and I was disappointed when it came through.  This cappuccino looked unhappy and malnourished; it didn’t even have a smiley face.  I have seen happier cappuccino’s in my life to be honest.  I am particular about the small details and this already got me less excited.

I took it in slowly while I waited on the pizza which surprisingly didn’t take long.  I am sure the wait was just 5 minutes and it was ready.  My Blesser Lite ordered chicken and chips and it was then that I realised there was nothing green in both our plates.  When the waitress came we ordered a veggie mix and I felt so much relief because food doesn’t make sense for me if it isn’t colourful.

The presentation was alright but the truth is when I took my first bite of the pizza I was not wowed.  I always insist that if you eat out the experience must be a shock to the system.  I mean what’s the point if you pay for a meal that doesn’t impress you, might as well not go right?  I expected more from them, the way it had been hyped and the way I was excited each time I ran past the building watching renovations taking place during my morning jog… it was a real train smash.

We ordered dessert and I chose Apple Crumble because it tastes divine; they serve it with ice cream but I’m used to having it with custard but there is always room to try new things.  The apple crumble did not disappoint, I loved every bite of it!  I didn’t know how to combine it with the ice cream so I just had a spoonful here and there till I had finished it.

My Blesser Lite loves things and even though he insisted he was full after eating a whole half chicken and chips he ordered a chocolate cake which he didn’t finish because he complained that it was too rich.

I would have eaten the remaining cake myself if I still had space for it!  I was stuffed.  I only ate 2 slices of pizza, part of his chips and part of the salad and I was good.  I had to ask the waitress to pack away my food because I had plans for it for today.  I will probably have it for lunch.  I ordered a glass of hot water with lemon because I felt too full and needed something to make the bloated feeling go away.

The face you make when you are officially stuffed!

The few things I liked about the place were:

  • The waitress was helpful
  • The restaurant is clean
  • The dessert was alright
  • They have both a swipe and Ecocash facility

I did not like:

  • The food was bland, we may as well have gone to Pizza Slice and had a better meal
  • The ambiance was nothing to ride home about
  • I don’t recall any music being played
  • The experience was nothing out of the ordinary

I think the only thing that made the evening bearable was the fact that I had good company otherwise had I been on my own I would have not lasted 10 minutes in there.  On a scale of 0-10, 10 being completely satisfied with my experience I will give Chop Chop Brazilian Steak House a 4.  I would like to believe they are still new in town and probably after a few weeks in the business they will up their game.  I have faith in them because it would be nice to come back to something that will bedazzle me.

In my opinion Chop Chop is Pizza Slice that went to Private School.

The End
